The hillsides surrounding Missoula are rife with Arrowleaf balsamroot in June. The winters that have tons of precipitation produce the largest plants and blooms in the spring. They are so iconic in our area that I had to paint them, and by sitting amongst them while painting, I can capture their fantastic essence. These blooms feel joyous to me. They are an annual reward after every winter I spend in Montana.
